SCIENTISTS WARN OF MOON BASE AFTER GIANT UFO FLEET SPOTTED

Researchers report more than twenty anomalous objects near the Moon—but the extraordinary alien-base theory remains unproven

The Moon has been watched for thousands of years. Now, a controversial series of telescope images has reignited one of humanity’s oldest questions: are we alone?

THE CLAIM THAT SET THE INTERNET ALIGHT

A dramatic claim about a possible secret base on the Moon spread rapidly across Instagram and other social platforms after Ukrainian researchers reported detecting more than twenty unidentified objects near the lunar disc.

The work was led by Boris Zhilyaev with Vladimir Petukhov and Sergey Pokhvala, researchers associated with the Main Astronomical Observatory of Ukraine.

Their March 2026 preprint, UFO Dynamics on the Moon, described high-speed telescope observations recorded from the Kyiv region on 7 September 2025.

The researchers identified apparently stationary objects and others that seemed to move across the Moon. Some were interpreted as dark, disc-shaped forms travelling at high speeds.

This is the origin of the sensational headline. It is not, however, proof of extraterrestrial spacecraft or a hidden alien base.

WHAT DID THE TELESCOPES RECORD?

The team used a telescope fitted with a specialist astronomical camera and recorded the Moon in video mode.

They applied calibration and signal-processing techniques intended to reduce camera noise, uneven pixel sensitivity and changing illumination. More than twenty small features were identified within selected frames.

The researchers analysed their apparent movement and brightness. They argued that some features might be inconsistent with ordinary image noise or recognised objects.

Their interpretation went considerably further. The paper discussed the possibility that an advanced civilisation might be operating near the Moon and suggested that stationary objects could be acting as bases or checkpoints.

These are hypotheses proposed by the authors. They have not been independently demonstrated.

THE PROBLEM OF DISTANCE

A small, dark feature seen against the Moon is not necessarily located on or near the lunar surface.

It could be much closer to the camera: a satellite, aircraft, balloon, bird, insect, atmospheric disturbance, optical artefact or image-processing effect.

Estimating the physical size of an unresolved object requires scientists to know—or reliably estimate—its distance. If the distance is assumed incorrectly, a small nearby object can be transformed mathematically into something apparently enormous.

Independent observations from widely separated locations are therefore essential. Multiple telescopes, radar information, original recordings and repeatable detections would help researchers determine where an object was actually located.

A PREPRINT IS NOT A VERDICT

The lunar-fleet research was circulated as a preprint. This means it was shared before conventional independent peer review had established whether its calculations, methods and conclusions could withstand detailed scientific examination.

Peer review does not guarantee that a scientific claim is true, but it allows other specialists to challenge its assumptions and attempt to reproduce its results.

At present, no major space agency or widely accepted astronomical observation has confirmed a fleet of artificial spacecraft, an extraterrestrial civilisation or a secret alien base on the Moon.

WHY SCIENTISTS SHOULD INVESTIGATE

Rejecting an unsupported conclusion is not the same as refusing to investigate an unexplained observation.

Modern cameras record the sky continuously, while sensors are becoming faster and more sensitive. Some aerial and astronomical observations remain unresolved because the available evidence is incomplete.

Serious investigation must begin with data rather than belief. Researchers need original recordings, calibrated instruments, transparent methods and observations that other teams can reproduce.

The first task is not to prove or dismiss extraterrestrial life. It is to identify what the instruments actually recorded.

“Unidentified” describes the present state of the evidence. It does not establish an extraterrestrial origin.

THE REAL MOON-BASE RACE

There is a genuine international race to establish a sustained human presence on the Moon.

The United States, China and international partners are pursuing lunar programmes involving scientific research, water ice, communications, new technology and possible future habitation.

These publicly documented projects will place more spacecraft and sensors around the Moon. Better instruments could make unusual events easier to investigate, but increasing human activity will also create additional reflections, exhaust, debris and artificial objects.

THE W7 VERDICT

The telescope images deserve examination, and the calculations deserve independent checking.

However, the available evidence supports a more cautious conclusion: researchers detected unexplained features in images near the Moon and proposed an extraordinary interpretation that has not been independently verified.

A giant fleet has not been established.

A secret lunar base has not been discovered.

Alien technology has not been confirmed.

The mystery is real. The conclusion is not—at least, not yet.
