INDIAN WEDDING BOOKINGS IN SRI LANKA SET TO JUMP 25%

By Publisher Ray Carmen

Sri Lanka is becoming one of the hottest overseas wedding destinations for Indian couples.

The WedMeGood Destination Wedding Report 2026 says the island recorded a 25% rise in popularity among Indian destination weddings during 2025, with bookings projected to grow by 20–25% annually over the next few years.

Why Sri Lanka? Short flights from India, beautiful beaches, heritage cities, tea-country romance and luxury resorts that understand the scale, traditions and splendour of an Indian celebration.

From a glamorous Colombo reception and a beachfront ceremony in Hambantota to misty hill-country celebrations in Kandy or Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka can turn a wedding into an unforgettable multi-day journey.

Destination weddings already represent one in four Indian weddings, according to the report—and Sri Lanka is perfectly placed to capture this booming luxury market.

For the island’s hotels, planners, florists, entertainers, photographers and transport providers, this is more than romance. It is a major new tourism opportunity.

SRI LANKA IS NO LONGER SIMPLY A HONEYMOON DESTINATION—IT IS BECOMING THE WEDDING STAGE ITSELF.
