INDIA SECURES LANDMARK DEAL TO EXPORT 150 MODERN LOCOMOTIVES TO GUINEA

India has taken another commanding step onto the global engineering stage with a landmark order to supply 150 advanced heavy-haul locomotives to the Republic of Guinea in West Africa.
The agreement, widely valued at approximately ₹3,000 crore, represents a major success for India’s “Make in India – Make for the World” initiative and places the country’s expanding railway-manufacturing capabilities firmly in the international spotlight.
FROM BIHAR TO WEST AFRICA
The locomotives are being manufactured at the Marhowra plant in Bihar, operated through a partnership between Indian Railways and global rail-technology company Wabtec.
The first locomotive destined for Guinea was officially flagged off in June 2025, marking an important milestone for the Marhowra factory and for India’s ambitions to become a leading exporter of sophisticated railway equipment.
The order is expected to be completed over a three-year delivery programme.
