After 12 Years, Has Underwater Drone Footage Revealed the Location of MH370?

A dramatic claim circulating on social media suggests that underwater drone footage has finally revealed the location of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370—more than 12 years after the aircraft mysteriously disappeared.
The headline has understandably attracted attention around the world. However, despite the excitement surrounding the footage, there has been no official confirmation that MH370 has been located.
The Boeing 777 disappeared on 8 March 2014 while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. There were 239 passengers and crew members aboard. Although pieces of debris linked to the aircraft have washed ashore over the years, its main wreckage and flight recorders have never been recovered.
Ocean Infinity has been conducting an advanced search of the southern Indian Ocean using autonomous underwater vehicles capable of scanning and mapping the seabed. The most recent search phase concluded without locating the missing aircraft.
Malaysia has since extended its agreement with Ocean Infinity through June 2027, allowing the company additional time to examine the remaining search area when conditions permit.
This means the search is continuing—but the viral suggestion that underwater drone footage has already revealed the aircraft’s location remains unconfirmed.
Images and videos of submerged aircraft have previously been shared online with misleading claims that they show MH370. Some were later identified as unrelated aircraft deliberately placed underwater as diving attractions. Any new footage should therefore be treated with caution unless it is authenticated by Malaysian authorities or the official search team.
For the families and friends of the 239 people aboard MH370, the search is much more than an aviation mystery. It is a painful wait for answers, understanding and closure.
After more than 12 years, the world continues to hope that advances in underwater technology will finally solve the mystery. Until an official announcement is made, however, MH370 has not been found.
