“THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS THING THAT HUMANS HAVE EVER GONE NEAR”
BILL GATES SOUNDS THE ALARM OVER ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
By Publisher Ray Carmen
Bill Gates, one of the pioneers of the modern technology revolution, has issued one of his strongest warnings yet about the extraordinary power — and potential dangers — of artificial intelligence.
Speaking to Ezra Klein in an interview published on 29 September 2026, the Microsoft co-founder was remarkably direct.
“This is the most dangerous thing that humans have ever gone near,” Gates said.
For a man whose career has been built around technological progress, it is a striking declaration.
Gates is not arguing that AI should simply be stopped. Artificial intelligence could transform medicine, education, agriculture, scientific research and economic productivity. But he believes its increasingly powerful capabilities are developing faster than the safeguards surrounding them.
THE DANGER MAY COME FROM HUMANS
One of Gates's biggest concerns is the possibility of powerful AI systems being deliberately misused.
He has highlighted the dangers of AI-assisted biological attacks and cyberattacks, arguing that these threats could become increasingly serious as sophisticated artificial-intelligence tools become more widely available.
Gates believes the immediate threat is not necessarily a science-fiction scenario in which machines suddenly take control of humanity.
It may instead be humans using extraordinarily powerful AI systems for destructive purposes.
And his language could hardly have been stronger.
Discussing the technological thresholds AI has already crossed, Gates said:
“This makes nuclear weapons look like nothing.”
CAN THE AI INDUSTRY POLICE ITSELF?
Gates also challenged the idea that technology companies should be left largely to regulate themselves.
He compared AI oversight with the safeguards society already demands in areas such as medicines, aviation and motor vehicles. His argument is simple: when technology can potentially affect millions — perhaps billions — of people, relying entirely upon voluntary corporate restraint is not enough.
He has called for stronger monitoring, safeguards and government involvement as AI systems become increasingly powerful.
HUMANITY'S GREAT AI GAMBLE
Artificial intelligence may ultimately become one of humanity's greatest achievements.
It could help discover medicines, improve education, accelerate scientific breakthroughs and tackle problems previously considered impossible.
Yet the same extraordinary power creates extraordinary responsibility.
Bill Gates helped usher the world into the personal-computer age. Decades later, he is now warning that the next technological revolution could be vastly more consequential.
The question facing humanity is therefore no longer simply:
How powerful can artificial intelligence become?
It is:
Can humanity remain wise enough to control what it creates?
For the WORLD OF 7, that may prove to be one of the defining questions of the 21st century.
