NORWAY SHIPPED ITS OWN FOOD TO THE USA FOR THE WORLD CUP

For most international sporting events, teams are happy to enjoy the local cuisine. However, Norway took a different approach during the FIFA World Cup by transporting much of its own food from home to its training base in the United States.

The decision was not intended as a criticism of American cuisine. Instead, the Norwegian Football Federation explained that it wanted to ensure players had access to the same carefully selected foods, nutritional standards and preparation methods they use throughout the year. Consistency in elite sport can make a real difference, especially during a major tournament where every detail matters.

Nutrition has become one of the most important aspects of modern football. National teams invest heavily in sports scientists, dietitians and chefs to ensure players receive the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, hydration and recovery foods before and after every match. Even small changes in diet can affect performance, recovery and overall wellbeing.

By bringing familiar ingredients from Norway, the team aimed to minimise any disruption to players’ routines while maintaining strict food safety and quality standards. It is an approach that has been adopted by several elite sports teams competing abroad, particularly during long international tournaments.

Whether it’s training methods, medical care or nutrition, success at the highest level often comes down to meticulous preparation. Norway’s decision serves as a reminder that in modern football, every detail counts.

From the training ground to the dinner table, champions know that preparation is everything.

Editor’s note: Rather than saying Norway “did not trust American food,” the evidence supports a more accurate wording: Norway chose to bring its own food to maintain consistent nutrition, food quality and player routines during the tournament. That keeps the feature factual while still making for an interesting story.
