DUBAI’S BILLIONAIRE RULER ARRIVES IN SCOTLAND FOR HIS 77TH BIRTHDAY WITH A 60-VEHICLE ENTOURAGE
By Publisher Ray Carmen
The peace and solitude of the Scottish Highlands have been interrupted by an arrival on a distinctly Dubai scale.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai — has arrived in Scotland ahead of his 77th birthday on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
The billionaire ruler was photographed wearing a serious expression as he landed at Inverness Airport. Some reports described him as looking “glum,” although a single photograph cannot reliably reveal anyone’s true mood. He was later seen appearing more relaxed while hillwalking with friends and relatives.
What attracted even greater attention was the extraordinary scale of his arrival.
Reports said the royal party travelled aboard a private jet and was supported by three helicopters, dozens of Range Rovers and approximately 30 Mercedes people carriers, forming a transport and security operation involving around 60 vehicles.
Local residents reportedly said they had rarely witnessed such a large convoy or such an extensive security presence in the area.
Sheikh Mohammed is staying at his enormous 63,000-acre Inverinate Estate, situated near Kyle of Lochalsh on the banks of Loch Duich.
The vast Highland retreat includes several large houses, lodges and helipads, and has continued to expand over the years to accommodate members of his extended family, guests and staff.
The contrast could hardly be greater.
In Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed is associated with some of the world’s most ambitious urban developments, including towering skyscrapers, luxury hotels, artificial islands and global aviation.
In Scotland, he is surrounded instead by mountains, lochs, open countryside and some of Britain’s most dramatic natural scenery.
For the ruler of one of the world’s most glamorous cities, the Highlands appear to offer something money often struggles to buy — privacy, stillness and escape.
Yet even in one of Scotland’s quietest corners, Dubai-style grandeur is never very far away.
A private jet, helicopters, luxury vehicles and a 60-strong convoy ensured that this was no ordinary birthday visit.
It was a royal arrival that brought the spectacle of the Gulf to the serenity of the Scottish Highlands.
