KING CHARLES URGES THE WEST TO RE-LEARN ISLAMIC TEACHINGS ON HUMANITY AND NATURE

For more than three decades, King Charles III has consistently spoken about the importance of understanding the wisdom found in different cultures and faiths.

Long before becoming King, he delivered a landmark speech in 1993 at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in which he encouraged the West to develop a deeper appreciation of Islamic civilisation. He argued that many misconceptions about Islam could be overcome through education, dialogue and mutual respect.

Among the themes that have remained central to his message is Islam’s long tradition of caring for both humanity and the natural world.

King Charles has praised Islamic teachings that emphasise compassion, justice, stewardship of the Earth and the responsibility of human beings to live in harmony with nature. He has often suggested that these timeless principles have much to offer a modern world facing environmental degradation, social division and climate change.

Rather than viewing different civilisations as rivals, the King has repeatedly encouraged people to see them as partners in humanity’s shared future.

His message is simple but powerful:

Every civilisation has wisdom worth learning.

Every faith has values that can contribute to peace.

Every culture deserves understanding before judgement.

In an increasingly interconnected world, King Charles believes that dialogue between East and West is not merely desirable—it is essential.

His words continue to resonate because they remind us that respect grows through knowledge, while ignorance often breeds misunderstanding.

As global challenges become ever more complex, the values of compassion, environmental responsibility, justice and respect for one another may prove to be among humanity’s greatest shared strengths.

Whether one follows Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism or no religion at all, the underlying message is universal:

When we learn from one another, we build bridges instead of barriers.

And when humanity works together, the future becomes brighter for everyone.
