INSIDE AIR FORCE ONE — THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS AIRCRAFT

Few aircraft are recognised around the world as instantly as Air Force One.
More than just a means of transport, it is a flying command centre, a symbol of the Presidency of the United States and one of the most secure aircraft ever built. Wherever it lands, Air Force One represents American leadership and the ability of the President to govern from virtually anywhere in the world.
Contrary to popular belief, "Air Force One" is not the name of a specific aircraft. It is the radio call sign used for any United States Air Force aircraft carrying the sitting President. Today, that role is performed by two specially modified Boeing VC-25A aircraft, based on the Boeing 747-200.
Inside, Air Force One is designed to function as both an office and a home in the sky. It contains a spacious presidential suite, conference and briefing rooms, offices for senior staff, secure communications facilities, a medical suite staffed by a doctor and work areas for journalists travelling with the President.
The aircraft is equipped with highly advanced communications systems, allowing the President to remain in constant contact with military commanders, government departments and world leaders during international travel or times of crisis.
Security is naturally one of its defining features. While many of its defensive capabilities remain classified, Air Force One is believed to include sophisticated electronic countermeasures, secure communications and systems designed to protect the aircraft in a wide range of situations.
Despite weighing hundreds of tonnes, the aircraft is capable of flying long distances without stopping. It can also be refuelled in mid-air, enabling it to remain airborne for extended periods should circumstances require.
Since its introduction, Air Force One has carried every American President on countless diplomatic missions, state visits and emergency operations. Historic moments have unfolded aboard the aircraft, including presidential addresses, international negotiations and the swift movement of leaders during times of national crisis.
The current VC-25A fleet is scheduled to be replaced by the next-generation VC-25B, based on the modern Boeing 747-8. The new aircraft are expected to incorporate updated communications, security systems and technology while continuing the long tradition of serving as the flying White House.
More than an aircraft, Air Force One has become an enduring symbol of leadership, resilience and the global reach of the United States.
Whether carrying presidents across oceans for peace talks, international summits or humanitarian missions, it remains one of the most remarkable aircraft ever to take to the skies.
